Before You Take the Bonus: Three Terms People Skip

By the time you have read "deposit and we match it", the brain's reward system is already engaged. That is the moment details get skipped. What a bonus is worth is usually decided by three terms further down the page.

Why excitement gets in the way of reading

When a reward is expected, attention narrows onto the reward and the cost gets a careless look. This is common and has little to do with character. The fix is not telling yourself to calm down but fixing an order: terms first, amount second.

Three terms to read first

Wagering requirement

Bonus money normally has to be bet a set number of times before anything can be withdrawn. A bonus with a 1x requirement and the same bonus with a 30x requirement are very different offers.

Eligible games

Some bonuses count only bets on certain games, and some games count partly or not at all. If the game you intended to play is excluded, the offer is of no use to you.

Withdrawal cap

Some offers limit how much can be withdrawn from winnings made with bonus money. Anything above the cap does not count.

Differences show up side by side

One operator's terms are hard to judge alone. For the Taiwanese market, someone has already put the deposit and withdrawal methods, bonus wagering terms and licences of thirteen operators into a Traditional Chinese comparison table (娛樂城比較表). It is a starting point for comparison; current terms should always be confirmed on each operator's own pages.

One last check

After reading the terms, ask one question: without this bonus, was I going to spend this money? If the answer is no, the offer is changing your decision, and that deserves a second thought.

Legal position varies by country. In Taiwan, gambling over the internet is an offence under Article 266 of the Criminal Code, punishable by a fine of up to NT$50,000; the text is in the Laws and Regulations Database. This site discusses psychology and judgement and does not recommend taking part.
